The Hollywood Scoop: Back to Cool

OCTOBER  2018

HAPPY FALL, Y'ALL

It's a good thing that Hollywood Hibiscus love the leisurely, warm days of fall in the South and will keep blooming their heads off as long as the temperatures are high. It's also a good thing that the yellows, reds, and oranges of your favorite Hollywoods are perfect for mixing and matching for non-traditional, but nevertheless lovely, displays for gardeners in frost-free areas.

We recommend planting some ornamental millet or ornamental grass with your Hollywood Hibiscus. Then, fill in with 4-inch or quart sized mums that complement the Hollywood colors. When the mums finish blooming, you can pull them out and pop a fresh set in.

HOLLYWOODS
PLAN THEIR WINTER VACATIONS

 Hollywood Hibiscus
Hollywoods are definitely fair weather plants when it comes to outdoor living. They'll keep frolicking outdoors all year in zones 9, 10, and 11 (see above). But if you live where it's cold, there's a good chance your Hollywoods are planning their tropical winter vacations. Here's how to help Hollywoods escape the cold.

If you're in zone 8 or colder, cut plants back to 6-8 inches tall and place them somewhere warm, bright, and slightly humid.

Pull back a bit on watering, only giving them a drink when the soil is dry. They’ll slow down or stop blooming.

In the spring, you can move them back outside again when nighttime temperatures are above 65 degrees. Alternatively, you can compost them in the winter and start fresh with new plants in the spring.

Hollywood fans — you're not the only one to falling in love with Hollywood Hibiscus.

They made their red carpet debut at the August IGC Show in Chicago and walked away with the top New Plant Zone award!

The Trial Gardens at the University of Georgia named Jolly Polly™, specifically, a "Best of the Best" selection for 2018. So, if you grow Hollywood Hibiscus, you can tell everyone you have an award-winning garden! #SpinForTheWin

HOLLYWOODS: THEY'RE JUST LIKE US!

They love to stretch toward the sun, enjoy a fruity drink with a friend, go glam for a night on the town, and hang out at home with a good rom-com. Hollywoods, they're just like US! And they've been spotted out and about spreading cheer everywhere they step.
 Playboy and Hot Shot
Vicky and Pat saw Playboy and Hot Shot™ making plans for a fall getaway. With "the season" underway, they're making the rounds on Broadway, showing up for backstage pictures at the hottest tickets in town.

Meanwhile, Jen stumbled upon a red carpet packed full of Hollywoods, no doubt buzzing about the the Oscar-bait movies hitting theaters this month. (We heard Lady Gaga was AH-MAZ-ING in "A Star is Born.")
 Hollywood Hibiscus Flowers
Chatty Cathy and Glamor Gal had a power lunch to plot their next moves. Our sources tell us they're hoping to star in the big screen adaptation of one of Reese Witherspoon's book club picks next year. Are they a package deal? Might be. They sure look good together.
